Tag?

Stolen from: Superdave

Apparently, this is the blog version of tag- and I'm it! Here are the rules:
Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.

Here it is:

Writer's Block: Stolen Goods

What is the most valuable thing you've ever had stolen from you?

View 500 Answers

My backpack out of my car while I was in college about halfway through a semester.  It contained all my books, all my notes, and my graphing calculator, not to mention my wallet with a couple credit cards, student ID and drivers license.  It was really hard to keep up with my classes after that was stolen! - this was probably most valuable to me.  They also took my husband's laptop that belonged to his work company, so they just claimed it on insurance and replaced it for him.  Nothing could replace my class notes.

Most valuable monetarily:  The moving company - Allied Van Lines - stole a chain saw and a 30-gallon air compressor from my husband and I while our stuff was in storage.  Then they lied to us about how to make a claim for the stuff they supposedly "lost" and spent the next year trying to weasel out of paying us for anything.  They eventually paid us some of what they owed, but not entirely.  We were really ticked off at them and the Better Business Bureau wasn't able to do anything with them either.  Stupid moving company.....

The chain saw was worth ~$150 and the air compressor about $400.

Back to the Future

I know this is probably a really stupid reason to post, but my husband mentioned something a few days ago when we were watching the Back to the Future trilogy together.  We were watching the third part and ... (don't continue reading this if you haven't seen the movies) ... the following conversation took place:

Bill (my husband): "You know this movie didn't really have to happen."

Me: What?

Bill:  Well, after Marty went back, there were two Deloreans in 1885, so they could have just mixed the parts from each to produce one functioning time machine and driven it back to 1985 - before Doc even met Clara.

At this point we continued to watch the movie, but I was a little disappointed.  Why didn't Doc think of that?  He was supposed to be smart, right?  Grrr.  How depressing.

Some reasoning in case you haven't seen the movie in a while and want to understand:

Marty is stuck in 1955 at the end of part 2, gets a letter from Doc who was struck by lightning in the Delorean saying when he was sent - 1885 - and where he hid the non-functional Delorean, as well as how Marty could fix it and get back to 1985.  The 1955 Doc and Marty find 1985 Doc's grave near where 1985 Doc hid the Delorean - showing his death only a few months after he arrived in 1885, so Marty goes back to 1885 to rescue Doc.  When he gets there, he accidentally rips the fuel line in the Delorean and loses all the gas.  When he finds Doc and tells him this, Doc says there won't be any gas stations for 20-30 more years, so they have to find another way.  In reality, they just had to go dig up Doc's delorean and fix one of them up using parts from the other.

Here's the car, since they're so cool looking:

first entry

Here's a little bit about me:

I am married (no kids yet) and working in a chemistry lab. I probably won't be here much longer because the grant runs out in January, so then I will be stuck. Until then, though, I'm trying to extract lectins out of bananas. (Note: TRYING is the operative word. I have followed 4 different published procedures and spent close to 2 months trying and have only in the past week managed to get anything out of it. I HATE bananas!)

The past 2 years I've spent treating frozen human ES cells with lectins trying to see which ones stick - showing the presence of various carbohydrates. I never thought I'd end up a carbohydrate chemist, but here I am.

If you want to read my papers, type Wearne into pubmed. It will come up with 2, I believe. If you want to read more than the abstract (which is free), email me at shotaurus@hotmail.com and I will eventually send you a pdf.

I like to play around with photoshop. I have CS2 here on my computer at work, so I play around with stuff a lot. I even made a logo for the church youth group, FYI (getting an idea of how bored I am most of the time?). I think it is cool, so here it is:

My husband and I help out with the media aspect of our church. The pastor, Kirk, has become one of our very good friends.

I have just started selling Beauticontrol products. Many of them are very nice. Check out the website to see! www.beauticontrol.com

I thought you might like to know, my icon is my favorite car. I used to own a green taurus SHO and we had to get rid of it when the transmission died, but boy was that car fun! Think taurus with a mustang engine! It had a lot of power and was really fun to drive.  I loved that car.  And they aren't making them anymore, so it is doubtful that I will ever own another one. :-(

Does anyone out there watch House MD? I love that show. It is the only thing I ever watch anymore. I also like to read the fanfiction about House and I have thought about writing some, but we will see about that later.

I am not currently listening to any music, but the song I am putting here is one I've been hearing a lot lately. ;-)
